Benefits of OATS

Hey, Guys! Wow! Summer has flown by! Hard to imagine I leave for college in 5 days :O
So, I follow this instagram account called foodtipz - it's really cool because it provides information on simple foods that  most people don't know about. Thought I would share it with you all :)

OATS
1. Oats are a low calorie food and helps to stop cravings. Oats acts a little like a bread product by expanding in your stomach, filling space and giving the feeling of being full. A single cup contains only 130 calories! 

2. Oats provide high levels of fiber, low levels of fat, and large amounts of protein (largest of any grain)

3. They stabilize blood sugar reducing the risk of diabetes. 

4. There is a fiber called beta-glucan in oats that has scientifically been proven to remove bad cholesterol.

5. Gluten-free

6. Protects against heart disease and cancer because of the lignans it contains.

7. Protects against heart failure.

8. Helps the immune system! Specifically, oats help the immune system fight diseases and eliminate bacteria found at the sites of infection. 

There ya go! Personally, I prefer to start my day with some oats because I usually eat berries (sweet) in the morning. One idea to try is to put a cup of oats into your protein shake in the morning!
